would it sort out fights between organisations and fighters?

^^ Great question.. Here are a few things, some of these are my ideas and some belong to others.
1. Offer pro fighters insurance. The Union could group fighters together like is done in other business so they could get group rates on life and health insurance.
2. Offer Legal help for fighters battling contract disputes. Some promoters take advantage of fighters if they can not afford the legal fees to enforce their contract.
Ex I have seen several guys sign a 12month 3 fight contracts but only get 1 fight during the 12 months. In other words they have lost the income from 2 fights for that year. Attorney's cost money. A lot of guys just can't afford them.
3. Someone mentioned provide assist in fighter retirement plans.
4. Set standards for what is required to become a Pro fighter.
5. Set Min Pay Lvls for Pro fighters. (some guys literally fight for gas money to get to the fight)
These are just some of the things. A Fighter Union could do a lot of good for the sport. There is a lot that needs to be done for the average fighters. Getting fighters more money would be nice but there is a lot of simple basic needs that really can best be addressed by a Union.

cool good post.
yeah a union would be good. helping out smaller name fighters as well as big names.
