Jason "Y" head coach of LouisvilleMMA has donated a nice series of techniques based on this "Stapler" position. Thanks go to Jason and Courtney Ray. The stapler is a very nasty place to be if you are the guy on the bottom. Many fights have been ended in this position. This position is very similar to the one Matt Hughes used to finish both Royce Gracie and BJ Penn. Pay attention to every detail. Jason "Y" and LouisvilleMMA have a lot of good things happening right now. Expect to see several of their guys fighting for Bodog soon. If you would like to sponsor LouisvilleMMA or any of Jason's guys, join our "Sponsorship Network" or PM LouisvilleMMA.

Great vid and great technique. Thanks for sharing. I got a question though. Would this be effective if there was much of a strength difference between the 2 fighters?

Thats a good point to make, yes it does make a difference, but if you use your shin to control the bicep and elbow, while controling the other elbow you still have an arm to base vertically to the head, and all else fails return to side mount or stand and back away. But yes a stronger, heavier guy will have the advantage in both appling and getting applied to by this technique.

Last night I saw Tommy Speers get this position on War Machine. You could hear Matt Hughes in the background yelling, " There it is Tommy, There it is!!" War relized he was in trouble and escaped before Tom got settled.
LouisvilleMMA Are you the coach in the video and if so any chance of getting other variations sometime. Great position. Thanks for posting.

Plus this position works real well breaking there grips!
